Herpetological Position
Zoo Med supports every kind of herpetoculture as long as it is carried out in a safe, legal, responsible, ethical and humane manner. We have no official position regarding any type of herpetoculture, whether venomous or non-venomous. Our business is built on the manufacturing of products that support the increasingly more sophisticated science and hobby of herpetoculture and we pride ourselves on creating products that have facilitated the meteoric rise of herpetoculture during the past thirty-five years.
Zoo Med has never offered any incentives or made any position statement against any particular type of herpetoculture.
Zoo Med is closely aligned with and is the largest fiscal supporter of the United States Association of Reptile Keepers (USARK). Since 2009, we have donated well over $1,000,000 to aid USARK in its fight against anti-herp legislation and regulation at the federal and state level. Approximately 90% of these efforts have been directed toward preserving the rights of those who keep venomous snakes and large constrictors. USARK’s well-documented history is available on their website at www.usark.org. With Zoo Med’s backing and support, USARK has prevailed in more than two dozen state level engagements fighting for the rights of private owners, businesses, and breeders to keep these animals.
Zoo Med is committed to helping to preserve the entire herp community and believes it detrimental to the whole to try to pit one segment against another.
