Our Store of the Month for December is Scales and Tails of Ohio (SATOO) in Lakewood Ohio! The owners of this store are two childhood friends that took separate paths as young adults and have now combined their experience to create this store.

Mike Easter is an Animal Planet celebrity, and was featured on ‘Gator Boys’ and ‘Monster Croc Invasion’. He also published several papers in academic journals and spent time in his early career performing educational demonstrations about reptiles. Tim Connors spent his early career in healthcare, but his passion for reptiles never faded.

Since opening the store in 2016, they have strived to provide a very unique experience for their customers. The store’s feel is akin more so to a zoo than a typical retail shop. The staff is passionate and experienced in the hobby, and they pride themselves on providing quality information based on years of experience. And while they take their work very seriously, they try to have fun as a company. More days than not, they seem to accomplish that.

When you visit SATOO you can find a vast variety of reptiles, amphibians, and now aquatics. Some are commonly found in the hobby, while others are rarely seen at retail shops (or even zoos for that matter). This includes Crocodile Monitors, Tree Monitors, Caiman, Mexican Beaded Lizards, Gila Monsters, Dart Frogs, White Lipped Pythons, Scrub Pythons, and various oddball colubrids, Alligator Gar Fish, Piranha, and Tiger Fish (just to name a few)! They also provide educational demonstrations both instore and off site to help share their knowledge about these extraordinary animals. 

Scales and Tails of Ohio also strives to breed a lot of their own reptiles including Corn Snakes, Kingsnakes, Milk Snakes, Emerald Tree Boas, Green Tree Pythons, Mangrove Snakes, Ackie Monitors, Cave Geckos, Leopard Geckos, Crested Geckos, Gargoyle Geckos, Veiled Chameleons, Panther Chameleons, and plans for lots more!

When you stop in make sure to check out of their famous residents which include Gary the Bearded Dragon, Snappy the Alligator Snapping Turtle, and Farley the Water Monitor.
