Michael Edelen and Patrick Kamberos met in college, where they quickly bonded over their childhood obsessions with reptiles. After graduating, Michael pursued a sales job, but when it was clear it wasn’t the right match, his wife Shay suggested he open a pet store with his best friend from college. In 2019, they took the plunge and opened Cold Blooded & Bizarre in Charlotte, NC.

When you walk into Cold Blooded & Bizarre, you’ll be greeted by their store pet Rock & Roll, a two-headed corn snake, along with a host of reptiles, amphibians, and invertebrates. They breed many animals in-house and have successfully bred 40 vertebrate species and over 80 invertebrate species to date. Some store favorites include their pair of rhino rat snakes, their leaf-tailed geckos, and blue-tongue skinks.

In addition to reptiles, the store sells several oddities and curiosities, including skulls, preserved animals, relics, and more. Cold Blooded & Bizarre is in the process of adding a second location in Wake Forest, NC to spread their impact, and also working on adding animals and dry goods to their website to ship nationwide!

Educating customers is important to them, and Patrick especially enjoys education about native snakes and their benefits. They also ensure every customer that buys an animal in their store is well prepared and properly stocked with all the essentials they’ll need to keep their new pet happy and healthy.

With a ride range of animals, excellent customer service/education, and a commitment to share their passion for reptiles, it’s not “Bizarre” that Cold Blooded & Bizarre got store of the month for July. If you’re in the area, make sure to show them some love this month!
