Our store of the month for March is Neighborhood Pet Shoppe! This store is owned by husband wife duo John and Sara Sherwood, who have more than 20 years of experience and dedication to the reptile industry.

Owning Neighborhood Pet Shoppe was not an adventure Sara and John could have predicted. Sara went to both law school and business school, and growing up John dreamed of being a vet. After they both got a taste of working in a pet store though, they fell in love and knew it was their calling.

Now Neighborhood Pet Shoppe in Searcy is their third store, joining the Neighborhood Pet Shoppe Conway location, and Safari Pets, which first opened in 2001, in Cabot, Arkansas.

Neighborhood Pet Shoppe has lots of amenities, including a self-wash station, grooming, nail trims for all animals (including bearded dragons!), educational events, and the ability to host/travel to birthday parties.

They prioritize having animals in store as well, not just the products for them. You can find an expansive collection of reptiles, birds, fish, and small mammals available, and they’re proud of having the largest variety of reptile species of any store in Arkansas.

On their days off, John volunteers as a pastor at his church, and they operate a small mini farm at their house. Their current barnyard includes goats, horses, pigs, and chickens.
