We are excited to feature Phil’s Pets in Lindsay, Ontario, Canada as our November store of the month.  Owner Phil Guymer opened his first pet store in 1993 called Tails N Teeth which catered to the Lindsay (Kawartha) area for the next decade.  Fast forward to 2005, Phil and his current business partner Jules Labelle opened Phil’s Pets.  They both share a huge passion for pets and the natural world which is on full display throughout their entire store.  Customers can find more than pets and supplies at the store including many showrooms and a pinball machine room.  Some of the most popular tenants are the pet parrots that belong to the store.  These are Kaylie (Blue and Gold Macaw), Scooter (Green Wing Macaw), Charlie (Goffin’s Cockatoo), and Barney (Congo African Grey) who get regular visits and attention from their customers.

Phil has been keeping pets since he can remember, and his first pet reptile was a tokay gecko followed by a black emperor scorpion. His favorite animals to work with are parrots because of their intelligence and ability to interact verbally. Phil and Jules currently own a Chug (Chihuahua and Pug) named Coral, a customer favorite in the store. They also own a cat, bettas, and koi at home.

Phil’s Pets carries some amazing animals, including reptiles, amphibians, arachnids, scorpions, hand-raised birds, small animals, freshwater and marine fish, pond fish, shrimp, and more. Customers can also find a variety of feeders to fulfill any pet reptile’s dietary needs, including five sizes of crickets, waxworms, mealworms, giant mealworms, superworms, silkworms, hornworms, and black soldier fly larvae. They also sell trout worms, nightcrawlers, and three species of fruit flies.  Feeder rodents including mice and rats are available live and frozen.

The store continues to grow and evolve and in addition to many stunning display aquariums, terrariums, and paludariums, they have plenty of supplies for you to create your own masterpiece. They have hardscaping materials like rocks and wood, and they have plenty of terrestrial and aquatic plants for sale too. If you want to make your habitat bioactive, they have cultures of isopods and springtails available.

The staff at Phil’s Pets are very knowledgeable and passionate hobbyists who offer excellent customer service to their loyal clients. They’ve even done educational shows outside of the store at schools, libraries, scout troops, and more.
