After a career-ending car accident in 2011, Sandra Dodge-Streich made a bold move to follow her lifelong dream of owning a pet shop. She opened Redding Reptiles with her son Ryan in 2013 and has been loving life ever since.
As a child, Sandra loved catching lizards and frogs/toads and usually had a 10-gallon terrarium with something living in it. Both her children had reptiles as young as 3, and opening Redding Reptiles has reminded the rest of the family of their reptile enthusiasm. Everybody plays a role, and when Steve (Sandra’s husband), and Cassie (Sandra’s daughter), are not working their own full-time jobs, they enjoy coming to help at the store.
In addition to an entirely reptile focused retail shop, they have a Reptile Exhibit Room that houses over 50 reptiles which were surrendered to them slowly since opening their doors. Some of these “store pets” include anacondas, reticulated pythons, sulcata tortoises, tegus, iguanas, chuckwallas, Asian Water Monitors, caiman lizards, tegus, and more.
They also offer services, such as nail trimming (yes for reptiles!), boarding, shed assistance, and hosting for birthday parties. Most months they do a store raffle where they give away a complete setup with an animal included.
Outside of work, Ryan breeds ball pythons for the store, and Sandra cares for an African Grey Parrot named Molly. The passion doesn’t stop when they leave the store, and you’ll be glad to stop into Redding Reptiles this month to see the joy and wisdom exuding from Ryan and Sandra!
