Our store of the month for July is R3N3GAD3 Reptiles in Westminster, SC. In 2023, owners Jackson Sharpe and Heather Griffin realized specialty reptile shops were sorely missing from the Westminster area and decided to take a leap of faith by opening R3N3GAD3 Reptiles.

Previously, Jackson bred ball pythons, and Heather (and Jackson) owned their own tattoo parlor. You can see how their artistic and animal sides combine with the beautiful mural painted outside the building. Inside the 900-square-foot building, there are beautiful bioactive terrariums on display, some containing store pets and some with rare reptiles for sale.

Some of the customers favorite store pets include Jeffery the leucistic axolotl, Lucifer the Pacman frog, and Big Momma, the bearded dragon. These animals come along to the educational shows R3N3GAD3 Reptiles hosts at local schools, homeschool groups, birthday parties, and more.

Upon request, R3N3GAD3 Reptiles offers custom bioactive builds for clients. In addition to having plants and a clean-up crew available for customers to add to bioactive builds, the store offers a huge selection of feeder insects and rodents for the pets that will someday live in them.

Some of the unusual animals you can expect to find rotating through the store include Vietnamese mossy tree frogs, Jackson’s chameleons, Uromastyx, purple harlequin toads, red-eyed crocodile skinks, red-foot tortoises, and more.

They breed their own ball pythons, axolotls, and bearded dragons for the store, along with many of the feeders the store provides like mealworms, Dubia roaches, nightcrawlers, rodents, fruit flies, and Dermestid beetles.

When asked what inspired his love of reptiles, Jackson “Honestly, the first reptile I ever owned was a Normal Ball Python. I came to a point in my life where I vowed to overcome every fear I ever had, and snakes just happened to be one of them. From that day I walked out of my now Best Friends Pet Store, I have completely found a calling and passion for these animals like nothing ever before. I really wish I had a favorite species but I must say that from my tarantulas, frogs, snakes, axolotls and scorpions….I love them all equally. Even our rodents!”
