Our Store of the Month for January is Pisces Pet Emporium in Calgary, Canada! This 30,000 square foot store is like a miniature zoo experience with the diverse menagerie they house under their roof. From koi ponds, marmosets, 700 freshwater and saltwater tanks, 100+ reptile terrariums, birds, and over 2,000 animal species in total, you could easily get lost in the magic of this store.

Owners Peter and Ave started Pisces in 1975 in a 900-square-foot building in their backyard. At first, they ran this as a side business selling fish and fish supplies while maintaining their teaching positions, but success has landed them in their current building, able to offer a full line inventory for dogs, cats, small animals, reptiles, birds, invertebrates, and more.

While Peter and Ave quit their teaching positions to pursue Pisces full-time, you can see their passion for education still shines through at the store. They host school tours and seminars on habitat setup and species care. They also ensure their staff are educated about the animals they keep and can provide excellent customer service.

Several other wonderful features of this store are their loyalty program called “V.I.Pisces” where you get store credit for every dollar spent in person or online, and their friendly, store-roaming sulcata named Mortoise the Tortoise.
