“Out with the old and in with the new “, that’s the exciting transition that Exotic Pet Birds and More went through in March of 2026!!!

Jamie and Sal Salafia took their first steps into the pet industry in 2017 opening a bird only store out of an extra room in their house.  Over the course of the next three years they expanded into a stand only store in Webster NY with 1,700 square feet of space.  As the business experienced success they saw their next calling and added reptile as well as expanding the store to over 7,000 square feet!  Then in 2025 the Salafias decided it was time to go big and moved to Henrietta, NY into a space with almost 10,000 square feet and added 3 new categories in dog, cat and small animals!

Sal had dreams from a young age of working with animals, sparked by a visit to his classroom by the owner of a local pet store and an animal loving teacher that nurtured his passion.  Working in his family’s real estate business for 15 years after college instilled a strong sense of community in him as well, which he aims to incorporate in everything he does with Exotic Pet Birds and the stores customers.

On the topic of community outreach, here are just a few of the things that they currently are working on:

• Weekly radio show on iHeart Radio, fully interactive taking calls and answering questions.
• Outreach programs
• Interactive displays at local minor league baseball team, Rochester Red Wings
• Just finishing the building of a dog training park attached to the back of the store

Uniquely Exotic Pet Birds actually breeds many of the birds that are available in the store, including most of the hookbills!  The avian nursery located centrally in the store, allows customers the unique experience to witness eggs hatching, babies being hand-fed and even DNA tests being done.

They also have a strong belief in their customers building a bond with their new pet before taking them home and have private ‘meeting rooms’ available for customers to spend time with their new family member prior to taking them home.

So many new things in such a short time, what does the future hold???  I guess, only time will tell!
