Our store of the month for October is Carter’s Pet Mart! Carter’s has been in business for 34 years and has four locations throughout California (Stockton, Manteca, Modesto, and Lodi). Carter family members Kelli and Ryan, are proud to manage the store and carry on the legacy Ryan’s parents started back in 1991.

Growing up around a pet store was not enough for Ryan, and he had a plethora of pets at home from childhood (dogs, cats, birds, reptiles, and fish). He’s happy to see that today specialty pets are rising in popularity and families are realizing the great value they add to a home.
Since taking over the store, Ryan expanded from the original Stockton location to three other locations in Manteca, Modesto, and Lodi. All four stores carry a variety of animals, including birds, saltwater and freshwater fish, reptiles, invertebrates, and small mammals. Some of the interesting species of these include sun conures, Coffin’s cockatoos, Tesselate eels, Dogface puffers, butterfly agamas, Uromastyx, and more. In the future, Ryan hopes to expand and remodel their reptile and aquatics sections.

Their store mascot is Rex the scrub python, and he will often be on display at events, such as school tours, community events, and educational presentations for school kids.
